Submissions for Research Topic

Modern Problematics!!!

We have a little over two weeks remaining in the semester and we're now moving into your final research paper topic. Due on Monday, Dec. 1, you need to submit to this blog a proposal of what general topic you'll be studying and researching about for this essay. Of course, during this Thanksgiving week, you should strive to work ahead and not only decide on your broad topic, but also on your specific question, and begin finding materials, articles, and books that will help you craft your argument. Good luck, and remember your topic proposals must be submitted by 8:55 am, Monday, Dec. 1.

okay i don't know if this is exactly what you want but here it goes...

In America, the big three automobile makers are GM, Ford and Chrysler. Not only do dozens of suppliers and thousands of dealerships depend on the big three, but also thousands of families and regions across our country are dependent on them, too. Due to their past financial decisions, these companies are facing problems they cannot deal with unless the government chooses to bail them out. Some say since these companies got themselves in this mess, it is their job to get themselves out of it while others believe we should give these companies financial aid since the distress of these companies effect millions of American jobs and families.

Question: Should America bail out the big three, or not?

Hello Everyone!!! I hope yall had a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Religion in the United States has been a central issue since the founding of this nation. It has shaped the lives of each and every American beginning before George Washington and carrying through to my own life. It is undeniable that specific stances on issues such as gay marriage, abortion, international conflict and many others have been directly linked to specific Christian beliefs. How has Christianity shaped the path of the United States for better or worse?

With the recent election of Barack Obama as president, the issue of race has become more prevalent in the everyday lives of Americans. Although his election is a major advance for the all minorities, his race should not be as immense of a concern to anyone because it only further promotes this idea of separation due to the color of someone’s skin. This ideology is present in every form whether it seems degrading or not. For example, when people look for scholarships for college, there tend to be many that require you to be of Hispanic or African-American descent. This can be helpful to those students, but Americans need to remember that there are more poor people that are Caucasian than is commonly perceived. Is it possible to put “race” aside and accept people for their accomplishments alone rather than by the color of their skin?

Hi Blair...

Some historians believe that the conversion of American industrial might into a military industrial might led America out of the Great Depression. Today's defense industry is one of the most vital industries in America with the research development and high-tech jobs that it provides. Considering America's current economic situation, would the defense industry play as major of a role in America's economic recovery as it did in World War II?

This is going to suck, so sorry...

In today's society with the media, tabloids, and television politicians and celebrities are displayed in front of all America to judge. Whether it’s a scandal with a politician or a sudden breakup with concerning a movie star, certain tabloids including The National Inquire and The Globe know the whole story before it even hits the internets. In general Americans are fascinated with these high profiled people because it gives them something to talk about with their friends but what Americans don't know is how it affects these individuals and their personal lives. Why should Americans be involved with these high profiled celebrities when it isn't even their problem?

In today's society, popular culture seems to surrond itself around political issues during elections or even to speak out against past presidents. The celebrities seem to predominately vote one particular way and it is more due to their high economic status than understanding the issues. Also, since celebrities are so publically known, they tend to sway voters, especially in the younger groups, to vote a certain way. They have, however, positively effected voting by increasing the amount of younger people who participates in voting in the last two elections with the "Rock the Vote" campaigns that they plaster all over MTV. How does popular culture play a role in politics and how do the celebrities influence those watching them during these times?

Media coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election created a publicly accessible battlefield for political commentators and common citizens to express their uncensored opinions. Also, celebrity opinions influenced the voting trends of young voters, as proved by MTV’s report on the election. Media parodies of candidates, such as Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, created a false character that influenced the opinions of voters. Overall, the media did provide information to voters, but sometimes created misleading representations of Presidential candidates.

Gay Marriage is a common topic of discussion in the modern world. However, the issue of gay adoption is not addressed as frequently. Some same sex couples are in want of a family, but some people believe they do not provide the proper needs for children such as the care of both a mother and a father. Should same sex couples be allowed to adopt children?
